Isaiah Thompson, a former Purdue standout, is set to bring his playing experience and coaching acumen to the University of Notre Dame, where he will serve as director of player development and recruiting coordinator.
Thompson’s appointment follows a stint as a graduate assistant at Purdue, where he contributed to player development and helped shape recruiting strategies. His playing days at Florida Gulf Coast University, where he averaged 14.6 points and 2.7 assists over two seasons, gave him a professional outlook that he now transfers to the collegiate ranks.
A New Chapter at Notre Dame
During his high school career at Zionsville, Indiana, Thompson amassed 2,139 points, surpassing the record previously held by future NBA coach Brad Stevens. He earned Indiana All‑Star honors alongside future Boilermaker teammates Mason Gillis and Brandon Newman, underscoring his impact on the state’s basketball landscape.
Thompson’s coaching trajectory has been shaped by mentors Matt Painter, Purdue’s long‑time head coach, and Micah Shrewsberry, who served as an assistant under Painter. Their guidance helped him transition from player to coach, a path he now continues at Notre Dame.
The move is expected to bolster Notre Dame’s recruiting efforts, especially within the Mid‑West corridor. By leveraging his connections in Indiana and his understanding of player development, Thompson aims to enhance the program’s competitiveness and sustain its tradition of excellence.
