The inaugural Connecticut High School Girls Soccer Challenge will take place on September 12 at Sporting CT in Middletown, featuring eight teams drawn from three state conferences.
A New Chapter for Girls’ Soccer
The tournament follows the blueprint of the Connecticut High School Boys Soccer Challenge, which enters its fifth year on September 27 and will showcase 24 teams from seven CIAC conferences across two Middletown venues.
Opening fixtures at 4 p.m. include a repeat of last season’s CIAC Class L second‑round encounter between Sacred Heart Academy and Avon, a match that ended 2‑1 in favor of Sacred Heart. Another 4 p.m. contest pits Rocky Hill against Valley Regional, the reigning Shoreline Conference champions.
At 6:30 p.m., Mercy will square off against Wethersfield, both programs that reached the CIAC quarterfinals a year ago, while Farmington meets Southington in an all‑CCC showdown.
The event reflects a broader push to elevate girls’ soccer in Connecticut, building on the strong attendance and community support that have characterized the boys’ competition over the past half‑decade.
