Former Chevak Leader Indicted on 47 Counts of Sexual Abuse

Ulric Jeffery Ulroan faces multiple charges stemming from a decade‑long pattern of abuse in western Alaska

A former community leader and high school basketball coach in Chevak, Alaska, has been indicted on 47 counts of sexual abuse and assault involving teenage girls from 2009 through 2025.

Ulric Jeffery Ulroan, who once served as mayor, city council member and vice mayor of Chevak, also worked as a certified foster parent and coached girls' basketball at the local school, is alleged to have exploited his positions of authority to prey on vulnerable youths.

A pattern of abuse across multiple communities

The investigation, led by the Alaska State Troopers, uncovered at least six victims across Chevak, Mountain Village and Anchorage, revealing a disturbing pattern that stretched over more than a decade.

Court records show that Ulroan’s bail has been set at $250,000 and that he is currently being held at the Anvil Mountain Correctional Center in Nome while awaiting his June 30 arraignment at the Bethel Courthouse.

State officials and advocacy groups have emphasized the need for continued vigilance, urging anyone with additional information to come forward as the probe expands into Nome and surrounding areas.

The case has drawn attention from a network of child‑protection organizations, including the Alaska Federation of Natives, Standing Together Against Rape and the Alaska Children’s Alliance, all of which are mobilizing resources to support survivors and prevent further abuse.
