Championship Showdowns in the Vine Valley Athletic League
On a crisp spring evening, the Petaluma Trojans traveled to face top‑seeded Casa Grande and emerged with an 11‑0 victory that underscored their offensive firepower and pitching precision. The win not only secured the league title but also served as a dramatic upset, propelling the Trojans from the No. 2 seed into the championship round.
Rowan Ball ignited the offense with a two‑run homer in the opening inning, while Dalton Deadman added three hits, three runs scored and an RBI to fuel the rally. Ben Vollmer contributed three hits and two RBIs, and Aidan Wirtz delivered a stellar five‑inning outing, allowing just three hits and striking out six batters. Vollmer capped the game by striking out the side in the final frame, sealing the shutout.
Across town, the American Canyon softball squad answered with an equally impressive 8‑0 triumph over Vintage. Kate Sosa dominated the mound, tossing a complete‑game shutout that yielded only five hits and five strikeouts. At the plate, Sosa doubled and drove in three runs, while Alayah Harris and Raquel Winterburn each added RBI singles in the second inning. The team later exploded for four more runs in the fourth and two in the sixth, with Ianna Lobao’s double, triple and RBI highlighting the onslaught. Deja Montgomery contributed two hits and three stolen bases, rounding out a balanced attack.
Both programs now turn their focus to the North Coast Section tournament, where their league titles will translate into seeding considerations. The Trojans and the Eagles will learn their postseason destinations and potential matchups in the coming days, but the momentum from these dominant performances promises to carry forward into the next chapter of their seasons.
