Miami Marlins pitcher Max Meyer delivered a masterclass on Tuesday, shutting out the St. Louis Cardinals 4-0 at loanDepot park. The victory improved Meyer’s record to 9-0, extending his unbeaten streak at the start of the season.
A Rain‑Soaked Eighth Inning
The game was delayed by rain for 27 minutes, but the pause only sharpened the focus of both clubs. Miami broke the scoreless deadlock in the eighth when Esteury Ruiz led off with a single and stole second, setting the stage for Graham Pauley’s 0-2 fastball down the first-base line that drove in Ruiz with a run-scoring double.
Kyle Stowers followed with a grounder to first that loaded the bases, and after two walks forced in two more runs, Stowers delivered a sacrifice that plated the final two tallies. Jakob Marsee’s two-out single off Max Rajcic in the ninth added the last two runs, sealing a 4-0 lead.
Meyer’s Dominance
Meyer tossed seven innings, allowing just two hits while striking out five and walking two. He surrendered no earned runs, keeping his ERA pristine and tying Livan Hernández’s 1997 start for the best opening-season record in franchise history.
Cardinals’ Slump Continues
St. Louis fell to 6-2 in their last eight outings, a slide that includes a five-run loss at Kansas City in Michael McGreevy’s previous start. Starter Michael McGreevy had pitched six scoreless innings before the bullpen surrendered two runs in the ninth.
With the win, Miami climbs to 17-5 this month and looks to maintain its momentum as the season progresses, while the Cardinals will aim to reverse a trend that has seen them lose six of their last eight games.
