Will Zaccagnino, a standout lineman from St. Joseph High School in Connecticut, has officially committed to the University of Wisconsin, concluding a recruitment that attracted 16 offers from Power Four programs.
A Dream Realized
The decision followed weeks of visits and deliberation, during which Zaccagnino weighed the Badgers' state‑of‑the‑art facilities and the program's reputation for hard‑nosed, physical football. He ultimately chose Wisconsin, a choice that fulfills a childhood dream sparked by watching college games on television at age five.
At St. Joseph, Zaccagnino has been a cornerstone of a program that captured a state title last season and earned him All‑State first‑team honors on defense. His coach, Joe Della Vecchia, has repeatedly praised the young athlete’s genuine demeanor, calm presence, and aggressive play.
Future Outlook
Versatility has defined Zaccagnino’s high school career; he has lined up on both sides of the line, but Wisconsin plans to deploy him as a defensive lineman. Last year he recorded 47 tackles, four sacks, eight tackles for a loss, nine quarterback hits and broke up nine passes, while also contributing five blocked kicks on special teams.
Looking ahead, Zaccagnino is eager to lead St. Joseph back to the state final and to make an immediate impact for the Badgers. He studies film and opponent strategies to maximize his playmaking ability, and he believes the veteran‑laden Wisconsin roster positions the team as a top contender for the 2026 campaign.
