Josh Young has been appointed the new baseball head coach at Graves County High School, bringing a blend of playing experience and coaching acumen to the program.
Young says his primary mission is to shape young men of character and responsibility, insisting that success on the diamond should be measured by personal growth as much as by wins.
A Philosophy Rooted in Development
His track record includes leading Caldwell County to a 2016 2nd Region championship as a senior player, later guiding the same program to a 46‑19 record over two seasons as head coach, and earning 2nd Region Coach of the Year honors before stepping down.
More recently, his 2024 Tigers posted a 27‑7 season, the second‑most victories in school history, and the Eagles, who finished 16‑15 last spring, captured the 3rd District title, a performance Young believes can translate into a regional championship.
Having spent the past two years as an assistant coach for both the baseball and football teams at Graves County, Young returns to the sidelines with a fresh perspective, while his wife Erica and their 11‑year‑old son Dax call Mayfield home.
The upcoming season will test whether the talent and culture Young has cultivated can finally deliver the regional crown he envisions.
