Mark Magliocco, a cornerstone of high school baseball in upstate New York, has returned to the Aquinas Institute as its varsity baseball coach, marking the second time he has guided the program he once played for as a teenager.
A Legacy Re‑Established
Over a 30‑year career, Magliocco has amassed an impressive résumé that includes Section V championships in 1997, 2009, 2012 and 2016, a state title in 2009, and the honor of being named Section V, All‑Greater Rochester and New York State Coach of the Year that same year. His contributions were later recognized with induction into the Aquinas Hall of Fame in 2020.
Magliocco’s impact extends beyond baseball; he has also served as a football coach at Aquinas and was a three‑sport athlete at the school, starring on the 1979 Section V‑winning squad. After playing collegiately at Monroe Community College and West Florida, he brings a deep understanding of both the local landscape and the broader competitive environment.
A Team in Transition
The 2023 squad entered the season with a 3‑14 record and sat last in the Class B‑1 division, a stark contrast to the winning culture Magliocco previously cultivated. He replaces Ray Manioci, who will remain on staff as an assistant and pitching coach, ensuring continuity in player development and strategy.
Aquinas’ athletic director, Anthony Bianchi, expressed enthusiasm about the appointment, citing Magliocco’s proven ability to instill discipline and elevate program standards. Bianchi noted that the school community is eager to see the veteran coach apply his disciplined approach to a team hungry for improvement.
