Italian Basketball Federation Clears Brescia Relocation to Rome, Paves Way for New Club

Mauro Ferrari’s financial backing and plans for Brescia’s future outlined as Lega Basket approves move.

The Italian Basketball Federation announced this week that Pallacanestro Brescia will relocate its senior operations to Rome, a decision that clears the path for the club to compete in both the Serie A and the EuroCup starting with the 2026‑27 season.

The federation’s approval, reached in coordination with Lega Basket Serie A, also secures Maxima Roma’s spot among the 32 teams slated to take part in the 2026‑27 BKT EuroCup, confirming the structural changes required by the governing bodies.

Mauro Ferrari, who previously owned the Brescia franchise for a decade, disclosed that he invested roughly €30 million over ten years to keep the club afloat. He cited financial sustainability as the primary driver behind the move, while emphasizing his commitment to assist local authorities in launching a new basketball entity in Brescia.

Ferrari explained that the restructuring will leave two Serie A2 licenses and two Serie B1 licenses available for the prospective Brescia club, and he confirmed that the city’s youth academy will remain intact, preserving a key talent pipeline for the community.

A New Chapter for Brescia Basketball

The upcoming club is expected to draw on the existing infrastructure and fan base, with Ferrari indicating that the project will be pursued in partnership with municipal leaders. This approach aims to rebuild a competitive presence in the Italian league system while maintaining the developmental focus that has long defined Brescia’s basketball culture.
