Draft Day Deal
The Boston Bruins announced a trade that sent forward Fabian Lysell to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for the Czech forward Ivan Ivan during the sixth round of the NHL Draft, a move that reshapes roster depth for both franchises.
Ivan Ivan, 23, has appeared in 49 NHL games for Colorado and contributed nine points while also logging 66 games with the Colorado Eagles of the AHL, where he recorded 26 points this season. A native of Ostrava, Czechia, he previously represented his country at the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championships.
Lysell, a 2021 first‑round selection at 21st overall, posted 42 points in 57 games for the Providence Bruins last season before a late‑season injury curtailed his playoff run, and he managed 12 NHL appearances for Boston in the 2024‑25 campaign.
Both players are slated to receive qualifying offers this summer, with Ivan Ivan’s projected at $850,000, adding a layer of financial consideration to the swap. Don Sweeney, Bruins' general manager, declined to comment on Lysell's status during pre‑draft media availability.
The trade signals Colorado’s intent to bolster depth with a proven NHL contributor while Boston shifts assets toward future flexibility, a strategic pivot that could shape both rosters heading into the next season.
