A Scenic Spectacle on Grouse Mountain
Fans gathered at Grouse Mountain in Vancouver for a mountaintop watch party that turned the England versus Panama World Cup clash into a panoramic experience, with a large screen framed by the sweeping vistas of British Columbia.
The gathering, organized as part of Destination Canada’s initiative to blend major sporting events with the country’s natural landscapes, attracted roughly 300 attendees who enjoyed the match against a backdrop of forested slopes and distant peaks.
When Jude Bellingham struck England’s breakthrough goal, the crowd erupted, a moment that volunteer Stephan Lukac later described as uniquely immersive, noting that the combination of the game’s intensity and the surrounding scenery amplified the excitement.
Despite a forecast that called for cool temperatures near 50 degrees and a slight chance of rain, the audience remained undeterred, layering up while cheering under the open sky.
The event forms part of a series of World Cup watch parties across Canada, with similar gatherings in Toronto and on the Toronto Islands, where fans were encouraged to kayak or ferry to the festivities, underscoring the tournament’s growing footprint on the nation’s cultural calendar.
Gloria Loree, senior vice president of marketing strategy for Destination Canada, emphasized that these experiences showcase the country’s ability to offer distinctive, location‑specific moments that go beyond traditional stadium viewing.
The coverage was also enriched by student contributors Connor Joyce and Drew Renner, who are enrolled at the University of Georgia’s Carmical Sports Media Institute, adding a fresh perspective to the reporting.
