Spring Practice Sets the Tone
Brooks Smith is entering his second year as head coach of the Orangeburg Preparatory School Indians, and the energy from spring practice has carried over into the offseason. Smith spoke about the team’s momentum, the chemistry among returning starters, and the excitement of building on a productive spring.
The Indians will retain a core group of starters on both offense and defense, but they must replace standout player Tilden Riley, who graduated and will continue his football career at Vanderbilt. Rising junior quarterback Cholly Williams is expected to assume the starting role, having thrown for 1,739 yards and 22 touchdowns last season with a completion rate of 104 of 185 passes.
A new offensive line coach, Caden Haws, has arrived and is already reshaping the running game. His influence is expected to diversify the attack and provide more balance for Williams, who will be charged with leading a revamped but experienced unit.
Region 2 presents a gauntlet of traditional rivals, including Pee Dee Academy, Williamsburg Academy, Greenwood Christian School and Spartanburg Day School. In addition to the region slate, the schedule features challenging non‑region matchups and a season‑opening jamboree designed to test the team early.
Beyond football, Orangeburg Prep celebrated three All‑State selections in softball and baseball, underscoring the school’s broader athletic excellence. The recognitions reflect a program that continues to attract top talent across multiple sports.
