The sudden passing of Casey McMillen, assistant varsity baseball coach at Stuart W. Cramer High School, left the school and the broader Cramerton community reeling just days before a scheduled playoff contest. Colleagues and students alike remember him not only for his expertise on the field but also for his unwavering commitment as a mentor, husband, and father.
Principal Dr. Jessica Steiner conveyed her deep sorrow, recalling how McMillen’s dedication extended beyond the diamond to shape the lives of countless students. She described his influence as a guiding force that will continue to echo throughout the halls of the school.
Postponement and Support
In response to the tragedy, the planned matchup against Burns High School was postponed, and messages of condolence poured in from the opposing school and the Town of Cramerton. Local sports organizations, including Kings Mountain Athletics, also expressed their solidarity with the grieving families.
The Gastonia Police Department issued a statement of solidarity with the Cramerton community, while school officials announced that counselors and additional staff will be available to support students and the baseball team during this difficult time.
