Brayden Tyson Commits to South Carolina, Shifting Recruiting Balance

Four-star running back chooses SEC program over finalists including Florida State

Four-star running back prospect Brayden Tyson announced his commitment to the University of South Carolina on Wednesday, choosing the Gamecocks over a final list that included the Florida State Seminoles, Miami Hurricanes, Purdue Boilermakers and Rutgers Scarlet Knights.

Tyson, a native of Snellville, Georgia, had cultivated a strong relationship with the Seminoles, traveling to Tallahassee three times this year, including a Junior Day in March and multiple spring practices, but ultimately decided that the SEC program offered the best fit for his academic and athletic goals.

Ranked No. 357 overall and No. 23 among athletes in the 247Sports composite, Tyson brings a blend of size and speed that attracted attention from coaches across the country. At Brockwood High School he posted a breakout junior season with 1,292 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns on 163 carries, following a sophomore campaign that saw him compile 2,123 yards and 26 scores while averaging 10.2 yards per carry.

His decision comes as the Seminoles also saw other top targets move elsewhere. Ty Keys has pledged to Miami, while Gary Walker is trending toward Clemson, leaving Jayden Miles and Marquis Fennell as the primary uncommitted prospects still on Florida State's radar.

What This Means for the Seminoles

The loss of Tyson underscores the volatility of the modern recruiting cycle, where elite prospects can pivot on a whim after a single visit or a change in coaching staff. Florida State will need to lean on its remaining commitments and continue to pursue the remaining targets if it hopes to preserve its momentum in the upcoming recruiting class.

For South Carolina, the addition of Tyson bolsters an already potent backfield and adds depth to a recruiting class that is beginning to take shape. The Gamecocks hope the commitment will signal a broader push to reclaim prominence in the SEC's crowded landscape.
