Greenwood’s midfield dynamo Hannah Simpson, a sophomore, has been crowned the 2026 River Valley Democrat-Gazette Girls Soccer Offensive Player of the Year, a testament to her breakout season.
Simpson finished the campaign with 13 goals and six assists, numbers that not only led her team but also underscored a marked improvement over her freshman year.
Her resurgence was a key factor in guiding the Greenwood Lady Bulldogs back to the 5A state tournament for the first time since 2023, rekindling excitement among fans and coaches alike.
A Season Defined by Progress
Coach Laura Mitchell praised Simpson’s work ethic, noting that the player’s offseason training regimen paid dividends on the field.
“What stands out about Hannah is her relentless drive,” Mitchell said. “She’s transformed from a promising freshman into a leader who can change the game in moments.”
The team’s journey to the state tournament was punctuated by several comeback victories, with Simpson often at the forefront, orchestrating play and finding the back of the net when it mattered most.
