Rinaldi’s Ascendancy
Vanderbilt football is entering a new era under head coach Clark Lea following a successful 10‑3 season that placed the Commodores among the nation’s most experienced units. Lea has repeatedly praised the team’s depth, noting that the roster combines seasoned veterans with promising newcomers.
The departure of star quarterback Diego Pavia and tight end Eli Stowers creates openings, but the coaching staff believes the experience retained on both sides of the ball will smooth the transition. The offense ranks 34th in experience nationally, while the defense holds the No. 4 spot in the country.
At the heart of that defensive resurgence is Nick Rinaldi, a versatile linebacker whose 2025 campaign featured 47 tackles, seven tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks and nine quarterback hurries. His blend of athleticism and instincts has made him a standout presence on the field.
Rinaldi, now in his sixth year of college football, is poised for a larger role in 2026. He will transition into a more permanent starting position, a move he says will allow him to tap into the growth he has experienced over the past season.
Coaches and teammates alike expect the linebacker to build on his previous production, with Rinaldi himself confident that his development curve still has room to climb. The Commodores’ blend of depth, experience and emerging talent sets the stage for a compelling campaign ahead.
