A rising star in the spotlight
Michai White, a five‑star point guard currently competing for the City Rocks in the Elite Youth Basketball League, has become one of the most talked‑about prospects in the 2028 recruiting class. In the 2025‑26 season he posted 21.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.5 steals per game, numbers that have drawn the eye of several power‑house programs.
The buzz isn’t limited to Syracuse. White has also heard from Auburn, Indiana, Louisville and Maryland, each extending scholarship offers, while his composite ranking places him No. 22 overall and No. 3 among point guards nationally according to the 247Sports Composite. ESPN’s own ranking puts him at No. 17 in the country, underscoring the breadth of his appeal.
Earlier this summer White made an unofficial visit to Syracuse’s Elite Camp, where he spent time on campus and toured the facilities. The trip was accompanied by longtime Syracuse assistant Gerry McNamara, who has been a consistent presence in White’s recruitment conversations.
Beyond the Orange, the young guard’s list of suitors includes Houston and Notre Dame, both of which have expressed strong interest. Analysts note that White’s blend of scoring ability and playmaking could make him a versatile asset for any program looking to bolster its backcourt.
As the recruitment cycle progresses, White says he is focused on evaluating each program’s fit, both on and off the court. With his senior season still ahead, the next few months could reshape the landscape of college basketball’s next freshman class.
