Red Wings’ Development Camp Focuses on Prospect Growth

Young talent gets hands‑on coaching and life‑skills training ahead of the upcoming season

A Blend of Skill and Life Lessons

The Detroit Red Wings have launched their annual development camp, inviting a select group of draft prospects to refine their game under the guidance of current coaches and former NHL stars.

The program combines intensive on‑ice skill work with NHL‑level off‑ice conditioning, while also featuring sessions on sleep management, nutrition and media interaction.

Alumni Daniel Cleary and Niklas Kronwall are among those leading the on‑ice instruction, offering mentorship that bridges past experience with present ambition.

General manager Steve Yzerman confirmed that the team will not travel to Traverse City for the start of training camp this year, citing the shortened schedule as a factor in the decision.

Among the participants, fifth‑round pick Beckham Edwards brings local familiarity, having spent the 2023‑24 season with the Little Caesars Under‑15 team in Novi and previously competing in the Ontario Hockey League with Sarnia.

Edwards, drafted 143rd overall, said the prospect of joining the Red Wings feels like a dream realized and is eager to contribute to the organization’s future.

The camp also provides coaches and management with a valuable opportunity to assess player development and identify specific areas for improvement before the regular season begins.
