Amari Barrett, a 6‑foot‑4 guard from Oklahoma City Millwood, announced his commitment to Texas Tech’s men’s basketball program on Wednesday, bringing a proven scoring threat to the Red Raiders.
Barrett averaged 17.0 points per game this season, helping Millwood capture the Oklahoma Class 3A state title in a historic run that produced the school’s 19th championship.
The recruit transferred to Millwood from Edmond (Okla.) North before his senior year, a move that preceded his state‑championship success and drew attention from several college programs.
A Strategic Boost for the Red Raiders
Barrett’s brother, T.O. Barrett, a 6‑4 guard who previously played at the University of Missouri, has been a mentor throughout the recruitment process.
He becomes the third high‑school prospect in Texas Tech’s 2026 class, joining Treaton ‘Trey’ Hall and DaKari Spear, a trio that coach Chris Beard hopes will reshape the roster.
In addition to the high‑school signees, Texas Tech has also added three transfers from the NCAA portal: Cruz Davis, Dra Gibbs‑Lawhorn and Damarion Dennis, bolstering depth for the upcoming season.
The commitments underscore a busy offseason for the program, which continues to attract attention from academic institutions such as Ball State University and the University of Texas at Arlington, though the focus remains on building a competitive team.
