The 2025 campaign concluded with a 4‑8 record for West Virginia University, marking Rich Rodriguez’s second stint at the helm and leaving the program eager to rebound.
As the Mountaineers turn their attention to the 2026 campaign, a projected depth chart is already taking shape, one that will be refined throughout the offseason as new arrivals and departures are confirmed.
A reshaped roster ahead of 2026
Among the most notable positional shifts, Wes King has been locked in as the first‑string center after a strong spring, while safety Andrew Powdrell earned the starting role thanks to eye‑catching testing numbers and a direct endorsement from Rodriguez.
The roster is also being bolstered by a wave of transfers and commitments. JUCO defensive back Tim Roberson has joined the squad, and high‑school teammate Shane Cornali has signed on, while freshman defensive end Kamdon Gillespie, once released from his national letter of intent, is now slated to arrive on campus.
Beyond those additions, WVU has secured pledges from a diverse set of players: wide receiver Prince Strachan, running back Cam Cook, and defensive back DJ Epps, as well as linebackers Ben Bogle and Isaiah Patterson, and secondary backs Maliek Hawkins and Geimere Latimer II, all coming from power‑four programs.
The transfer portal has also produced departures that will reshape the depth chart. Offensive linemen Brandon Homady and Mickel Clay, edge rusher Curtis Jones Jr., and several other starters have entered the portal, creating openings for newcomers such as Cam Ball, Amare Grayson, Chams Diagne and Peter Notaro.
Coaches are using spring practice performances to evaluate competition at every position, and the staff has already updated the chart to reflect expected moves like the arrival of Wyoming guard Wes King and LSU wideout TaRon Francis, as well as the expected exit of several key contributors.
With the depth chart still fluid, the Mountaineers’ staff emphasizes that the upcoming season will hinge on how quickly these pieces mesh, and fans can expect continued adjustments as the offseason progresses.
