Charlie Lakin Tournament Wrap-Up
The Charlie Lakin Tournament concluded with two dramatic finals that saw McKinleyville’s baseball team defeat Eureka 5-1 and Eureka’s softball squad outlast Fortuna 14-7, delivering a third straight Lakin title for the baseball champions and a hard-fought softball victory for the hosts.
McKinleyville’s baseball side opened the game with a four-run burst in the first inning and never looked back, a performance that underscored the depth of talent on the roster and featured key contributions from Ryder Mitchell, who collected three hits and scored a run.
In the softball championship, Eureka built an early lead and rode a barrage of hits from Macy Secor, Tiffany Harris and Bailey Brown to a 14-7 victory over Fortuna, with Evalynn Little contributing three hits, two runs and an RBI for the opposition.
The tournament also highlighted the breadth of local talent, with names like Mike Dobrec, Blake Santos, Tate Saso, Bode Reininger, Patrick Wilson, Hunter Carper, Kyle Giacone, Garrett Levitt, Ty Crawford, Mackenzie Wolff, Jaycee Childress, Macy Secor, Evalynn Little, Kaylee Castillo, Olivia Hayes, Hailee Thompson, Tiffany Harris, Violla Kingsang, Bailey Brown, Megan Secor, Isabel Sanchez, Sophia Castillo and Bob Secor all seeing action on the field.
