Georgia Tech clinched its second straight Atlantic Coast Conference regular-season championship on Saturday, downing Boston College 14-1 in a game that underscored the Yellow Jackets’ offensive firepower and defensive poise.
The victory was built on a collective effort at the plate, as every starter recorded at least one run scored or one RBI, and Ryan Zuckerman emerged as the catalyst with four RBIs, highlighted by a bases-clearing double in the fifth inning that sparked a five-run ninth.
Jarren Advincula and Vahn Lackey each added three runs to the tally, while Carson Ballard delivered a stellar six-inning start on the mound, and reliever Mason Patel shut the door with three scoreless frames.
A Historic Milestone for the Yellow Jackets
Coach James Ramsey, in his inaugural season, became the first head coach in ACC history to capture back-to-back titles with two different programs, cementing his rapid impact on the Yellow Jackets.
The win also marked a milestone for the program’s record books, establishing the best 53-game stretch in school history at 44-9 and setting new marks for runs scored, home runs, and doubles, with junior Carson Kerce rewriting the doubles record.
The depth of the squad was evident as senior Parker Brosius continued his hot streak with a clutch single that produced two RBIs, while junior Drew Burress extended his on-base streak to 16 games; junior Carson Kerce’s double record was complemented by junior Vahn Lackey’s 3-for-4 performance that included two RBIs and three runs, and the bullpen saw contributions from Mason Patel, who struck out two in his relief outing.
Even newcomers such as Jay Payton, Doug Ibele, and Wes Hodges have begun to carve out roles, while pitchers like Tyler Greene and relievers including Luke Bard, Jackson Blakely, and Tate McKee are expected to bolster the staff as the season progresses.
