The University of Tennessee has unveiled its full slate of opponents for the 2026‑27 men’s basketball season, setting the stage for a schedule that blends familiar SEC rivalries with ambitious non‑conference road trips.
SEC Slate and Traditional Rivals
Within the SEC, the Vols will once again host their perennial foes Kentucky and Vanderbilt, while Missouri joins them as the rotating third partner in a home‑and‑home series. In addition, Tennessee will welcome Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi State and South Carolina to its home floor throughout the season.
Non‑Conference Road Tests
Beyond the conference, Tennessee will test itself against top competition in the Players Era Festival in Las Vegas, where the team is slated to open against Maryland on November 24. The festival, now expanded to 24 teams, will see the Vols compete in a 16‑team bracket running through November 28.
ACC‑SEC Challenge
The ACC‑SEC Challenge will bring Florida State to Knoxville on December 1, a venue where Tennessee holds a 5‑4 all‑time edge, though the last meeting in November 2019 ended in a 60‑57 loss.
Home‑and‑Home Series with Big Ten Powers
Tennessee will also begin home‑and‑home series with two Big Ten programs. The first leg takes the Vols to West Lafayette for a road test at Purdue on December 11, a venue where they are 1‑3 all-time against the Boilermakers, having dropped the last three meetings.
Coach Rick Barnes, now in his second decade at the helm, will also see his staff face former associate head coach Justin Gainey when North Carolina State visits Bridgestone Arena next season, adding a narrative subplot to the schedule.
Looking Ahead
With a blend of historic rivalries, marquee neutral‑site events and challenging road games, the upcoming season promises to be a pivotal one for the Vols as they look to build on recent performances and push for deeper postseason runs.
