High School On SI Iowa has launched a statewide vote to crown the Class 2A midseason player of the year, a recognition that reflects both individual brilliance and team impact as the summer season reaches its midpoint.
A competitive race among the state's top talents
The nominee list features five athletes whose performances have turned heads across the diamond. Each brings a distinct skill set, from power hitting to dominant pitching, making the contest one of the most anticipated in recent memory.
JJ Phillips, a standout from Carroll, leads the offensive charge with a .519 batting average, eight home runs, and a combination of doubles and triples that underscore his all‑around threat at the plate.
Reece Blaisdell, representing Cedar Rapids, has been nearly untouchable on the mound, posting a 7‑0 record, three saves and 64 strikeouts across 12 appearances, a testament to his poise under pressure.
Owen Coyle, another offensive sparkplug, maintains a .405 average while driving in 20 runs and scoring 21 times, his 10 extra‑base hits highlighting his knack for timely hitting.
Will Litton, a pitcher from an undisclosed school, boasts a perfect 4‑0 record, 43 strikeouts in 34 innings and a miniscule 0.62 earned run average, positioning him as one of the most reliable arms in the class.
Brayden Kennedy rounds out the group with a 7‑1 record, 60 strikeouts in 38 innings and a 0.91 ERA, his consistency making him a favorite among voters seeking a well‑rounded pitcher.
The excitement extends beyond individual stats, as the Iowa High School Athletic Association State Baseball Tournament is slated to begin on July 20, bringing together the best teams and players for a showcase of talent.
Voting for the midseason player of the year will close on July 6 at 11:59 p.m. CT, giving fans a narrow window to cast their ballots and influence the final honoree.
