Iowa’s high school baseball landscape is entering a pivotal stretch, and the state’s governing body has launched a public poll to crown the Class 1A Player of the Year for the midseason. The initiative, overseen by the Iowa High School Athletic Association, invites anyone to cast a vote for the athlete whose on‑field contributions have been most impactful.
Midseason Standouts
Among the nominees, Ty Heydon of Cedar Rapids has emerged as a dual‑threat force. At the plate he is batting .623 and has already amassed six home runs, 12 doubles, five triples, 53 RBIs and 42 runs scored. On the mound he is 4‑0 with a save, 61 strikeouts and just under 33 innings pitched, showcasing a rare blend of hitting and pitching excellence.
Colton Wight, also from Cedar Rapids, brings a potent bat to the lineup. He is batting .581 with 56 runs scored, 18 doubles, nine homers and three triples, while driving in 44 runs. His speed is evident in 19 stolen bases, underscoring a well‑rounded offensive skill set.
Connor Mullenbach, another Cedar Rapids standout, has been nearly untouchable on the mound. He sits at 8‑0 with 41 strikeouts and has yet to surrender an earned run, while also batting .403 with 33 runs scored and 22 steals, highlighting his versatility.
Colton Moffitt, representing Carroll, leads the state in strikeouts with 109 and boasts a 0.26 earned‑run average over more than 53 innings. He is 9‑1 with one save, positioning him as a dominant force in the rotation.
Macklin Loftus, also from Carroll, has been equally impressive, allowing just four hits and one earned run across 32‑plus innings while striking out 81 batters. He enters the vote unbeaten at 5‑0, rounding out a field of pitchers who have each turned in ace‑level performances.
The voting period is open to the public and is intended purely as a celebration of these athletes’ achievements, with no monetary prizes or official awards attached. Fans can submit their choice through the association’s platform, helping to spotlight the talent that defines Iowa’s high school baseball scene.
