A Community‑Driven Kickoff
RAZE, an acronym for “Relentless Attitude, Zero Excuses,” hosted its first official field hockey Spring Clinic on June 7 at Watchung Field in Montclair, drawing a crowd of eager youngsters ready to sharpen their game.
The event was more than a skills drill; it was a celebration of fundamentals, confidence‑building and the simple joy of playing together. Coaches emphasized not only technical improvements but also sportsmanship and leadership, values that Hagel says are at the heart of the organization.
Michelle Hagel, who also serves as the Montclair High School head field hockey coach, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to give back to the sport that shaped her career. “Seeing these kids light up on the field reminds me why I started RAZE,” she said.
Beyond the drills, the clinic fostered meaningful connections among participants, families and local volunteers. Parents noted the positive atmosphere, and several athletes spoke about how the experience sparked a lasting love for the game.
Future Pathways
Looking ahead, RAZE plans to expand its reach through additional clinics, camps and training sessions, aiming to create a robust pipeline for aspiring players in the region. The organization’s vision includes partnerships with schools and community centers to broaden access.
With a clear focus on growth and community impact, RAZE is poised to become a cornerstone of field hockey in New Jersey, offering pathways for athletes to develop both on and off the field.
