Weekend Recap
The weekend saw a flurry of action in the Legion baseball circuit, with teams from Wyoming and Nebraska battling in tournaments held in Cheyenne, Gillette, Bridgeport and surrounding towns. WESTCO Zephyrs opened the weekend by edging LB Baseball from Fort Collins 6‑1, then fought to a 1‑1 draw with the Wellington Birds after eight innings. On Friday the Zephyrs posted a 12‑1 victory over Regis Jesuit, followed by a 12‑1 win against Post 6 Eagles on Saturday and a 12‑2 triumph over Post 6 Hawks on Sunday. A narrow 10‑8 loss to Regis Jesuit on Sunday capped a mixed weekend for the Zephyrs.
Alliance Sparts also saw action, dropping a 2‑1 decision to Gallatin Valley on Thursday before unleashing a 19‑0 rout of Buckley on Friday. The Sparts added a 12‑3 win over Greeley CO on Saturday and a 12‑0 shutout of Gillette on the same day, only to be edged 8‑2 by Sanford Sports Baseball on Sunday. Meanwhile, Wood River posted a 17‑11 victory over Bridgeport on Friday, while DTG Post 300 recorded a 12‑4 win over the same opponent. Both Hi‑Line Bulls and Cambridge/Arapahoe secured 9‑7 and 9‑6 victories respectively over Bridgeport on Saturday.
Upcoming Matchups
The early part of the week brings a slate of games that will keep the momentum going. Bridgeport is scheduled to host Gering on Tuesday, with contests slated for 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. WESTCO Zephyrs travel to Wheatland for two games on Tuesday at 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., while Chadron will host the Zephyrs on Wednesday at 7:15 p.m. In another mid‑week clash, Alliance will meet Gering PVC on Wednesday at 7:15 p.m. These fixtures promise further excitement as the season progresses.
