Kerr joins Gotham FC
Australian forward Sam Kerr has signed a contract that will keep her with Gotham FC of the National Women's Soccer League through the 2030 season. The agreement brings the world‑class striker back to the NWSL, where she previously illuminated the league with Sky Blue and the Chicago Red Stars before a high‑profile stint in England.
Kerr arrives as the NWSL's all‑time leading regular‑season scorer, having amassed 77 goals and captured three consecutive scoring titles from 2017 to 2019. Her 2023 campaign saw her finish with 17 goals for Chelsea, where she also helped the club secure five Women's Super League titles, three FA Cups and three League Cups.
A global icon with a trail of records
Beyond club success, Kerr has become a household name on the international stage. She holds the record as Australia's all‑time leading scorer with 75 goals and led the Matildas to the semifinals of the 2023 Women's World Cup. Her exploits have earned her Golden Boot awards in three different leagues and two NWSL MVP honors, cementing her status as one of the sport's most dominant forwards.
Known for her acrobatic backflip celebrations, Kerr has also distinguished herself with consistency across continents. She has scored 65 goals in the Women’s Super League, winning the league's Golden Boot twice, and netted 116 goals in all competitions, tying Chelsea's historic scorer Fran Kirby.
Off the pitch, Kerr shares her life with American midfielder Kristie Mewis, her former NWSL and WSL teammate and U.S. national team colleague. The couple welcomed their son, Jagger Mewis‑Kerr, in May 2025, adding a new chapter to a story that already spans continents.
