Young’s baseball journey began in the Midwest, where he excelled at Jamestown High School before moving on to Indiana State, earning Missouri Valley Conference honors in 2015 and 2016.
Selected in the 2016 MLB Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals, he later made his major league debut on August 1, 2020, against the Los Angeles Dodgers, and went on to appear for the Arizona Diamondbacks and Washington Nationals.
After the 2021 season he signed with the Nationals, spending two seasons in the National League before returning to the collegiate ranks.
Young expressed pride in joining the Bison program, saying he is eager to share the knowledge he gained at the highest level with the next generation of Bison players.
In addition to his new role at NDSU, Young spent the 2025 season assisting the Concordia‑Moorhead baseball program, further honing his coaching skills.
