The Nodaway Valley baseball squad enters the latter part of its schedule with a 4‑16 record, a statistic that reflects both the challenges and the moments of promise the team has shown this season.
Head Coach Dan Jameson has repeatedly pointed to the first few innings as a recurring trouble spot, noting that opponents have often struck early and forced his pitchers into catch‑up mode.
In recent outings, teams such as Lenox and East Union capitalized on that pattern, posting eight‑run first‑three‑inning bursts to secure 8‑0 and 11‑3 victories, while Wayne managed a narrow 3‑2 win after a two‑run opening frame.
Despite the early‑inning hurdles, the Wolverines have reliable arms in senior Remington Woolsey, junior Manolis Galanakis, and the experienced duo of seniors Ty Strode and Will Schilling, who together have logged the bulk of the team’s innings this year.
Galanakis, who stands at a 2‑2 record with a 3.57 ERA across nine appearances and four starts, is joined by Strode, who bats .312, and sophomore Titan Foster, who tops the lineup with a .315 average and 38 stolen bases.
The upcoming slate includes a home matchup against the second‑ranked Martensdale St. Mary’s, a team that previously edged the Wolverines 8‑2, followed by games against Southeast Warren and a final regular‑season contest at Stanton.
Coach Jameson remains confident that the Wolverines can turn the tide, especially as they prepare to host West Central Valley at 5 p.m. on Friday in the first round of the 2A playoffs, a contest being staged at Woodward Granger’s venue.
