
NASCAR Makes Historic Debut on San Diego Street Circuit for Navy’s 250th Anniversary
NASCAR will race in San Diego for the first time ever with a street course event at Naval Base Coronado. The 3.4‑mile temporary circuit with 16 turns will be built on Naval Air Station North Island. Sheldon Creed enters the weekend fourth in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series standings. Sam Mayer has back‑to‑back top‑five finishes at Nashville and Pocono. Cole Custer’s Naval squadron pairing this weekend is Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron Four (HSC‑4). Custer has made one career NASCAR Cup Series start on a street course, finishing 33rd last season at the Chicago Street Course. Creed is set to make his fourth career street course start in the O’Reilly Series this Saturday in San Diego. Mayer is in line for his fourth career street course start in the O’Reilly Series this weekend. Haas Factory Team had a strong weekend at Pocono, earning two top‑five finishes in Saturday’s O’Reilly Series race. Cole Custer charged from the rear of the field to 12th on Saturday and ran inside the top 10 briefly in Sunday’s Cup Series race.
