At just twelve years old, Lyric Baker has already become a standout name in the regional baseball circuit. This week, the youngster from Dixon received the honor of being named to the JP Sports All American All‑Star team, a roster that will travel to Panama City in December for an international showcase.
Baker’s reputation rests not only on his pitching prowess but also on his ability to slot in at shortstop or patrol center field with equal confidence. Earlier this summer he suited up for the Dixon Rebels, a traveling team that has become a launching pad for many aspiring athletes in the area.
A Community Fundraiser Takes Shape
To cover travel, accommodation and equipment costs, Lyric’s parents — Markus Baker and Misty Donaldson — have arranged a dart tournament at Patio’s in Dixon on October 17. The event will feature a 50/50 payout for the winner and a raffle stocked with donated prizes, turning a simple game night into a vital fundraising engine.
Local businesses and neighbors have already pledged items for the raffle, illustrating how a single young athlete can galvanize a community. Organizers say the tournament could raise enough money to offset a significant portion of the expenses associated with the Panama City tournament.
Looking Ahead to Panama City
For Lyric, the upcoming trip represents more than a chance to test his skills against international peers; it is an opportunity to represent Dixon on a global stage. Coaches who have watched him develop say his versatility and work ethic make him a natural ambassador for the region’s growing baseball talent.
As the dart tournament approaches, the excitement in the Baker household is palpable. Whether on the diamond or at the dartboard, the family’s dedication underscores a broader narrative of grassroots support shaping the next generation of athletes.
