A 17-year-old international prospect from Florida has committed to Duke University, bringing a rare blend of size and skill to the Blue Devils' roster.
Standing at 7 feet tall and weighing 230 pounds, Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje possesses a guard’s agility while wielding the shooting range and playmaking vision of a seasoned point guard.
A Strategic Fit at Duke
His breakout performance at the Adidas NextGen EuroLeague Tournament earned him the Finals MVP award, where he averaged 19.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.8 assists while shooting 58 percent from the field and 47 percent from three-point range.
Duke’s head coach Jon Scheyer, celebrated for his ability to nurture talent, will oversee Boumtje Boumtje’s development, a pathway that aligns with the player’s ambition to enter the NBA Draft in 2028 after completing the required two-year college stint.
Beyond college, Boumtje Boumtje is currently training with the Team USA U17 National Team, eyeing a spot on the final 12-man roster for the FIBA U17 World Cup in Istanbul, a tournament that could further showcase his abilities on the world stage.
