The 2024 high school soccer season in Central Oregon proved to be one of the most competitive in recent memory, with programs from Bend, Summit, Sisters and nearby communities making deep runs into the state tournament. Bend High captured the championship match, while Summit and Sisters advanced to the semifinals, underscoring the region’s growing soccer culture.
Among the standout performers, Shea Manfredi of Bend High emerged as a prolific scorer, netting 22 goals and adding 13 assists while earning co‑Player of the Year honors in 5A and being named Intermountain Conference Player of the Year for two consecutive seasons. Her consistency placed her on the state first‑team for the second straight year.
Rising Stars of the Intermountain Conference
Quentin Swanston anchored Summit’s defense, being named conference Player of the Year as a defender and helping the team go 14 straight matches without conceding a goal in 2025. Sophomore forward Will Newton contributed 19 goals and six assists, guiding Summit to the Class 5A state semifinals.
On the offensive front, Piper Abrams delivered the decisive game‑winning goal for Bend High in the championship against North Eugene and earned all‑state recognition in her first two seasons. Coco Skovborg, also from Summit, repeated as a first‑team all‑IMC selection and helped the team reach the state semifinals.
Goalkeeping excellence was on display through several players. Bentley Malacon‑Deal, a sophomore transfer from Caldera, posted 124 saves and earned all‑state honorable mention while being named to the IMC first team. Brooklyn Mettler, a freshman turned second‑team all‑5A pick, recorded ten clean sheets, including one in the championship match. Tati Fobi, a transfer from Vancouver, Washington, fortified Bend’s backline and assisted on the championship‑deciding goal.
Midfielders and defenders also shone. Zach Bradley earned first‑team all‑IMC honors and all‑state honorable mention as a midfielder, while Aili Mikalson’s progression from second‑team to first‑team all‑IMC helped Mountain View reach the postseason each year. Defenders Khloe Kemp, Rylee Holmes, Georgia Koch, Adrian Rosales and Alex Nieto each contributed key performances, with Kemp cracking the Lava Bear lineup as a freshman and Rosales earning first‑team all‑IMC after Crook County joined the conference.
