The 2026 Oil Bowl returns this June, bringing together the best senior basketball players from the Wichita Falls area for a showcase that blends competition with charity.
Girls will take the court at 6 p.m. followed by the boys at 7:30 p.m., both at Legacy High School, while volleyball matches will run earlier in the day, completing a slate of all‑star contests that have become a staple of the region’s sports calendar.
A Tradition of Giving
Since its inception in 1938, the Oil Bowl has raised money for a succession of local causes. Early proceeds were split between Oklahoma and Texas, but from 2012 through 2019 the net funds were directed to Shriners Hospitals for Children, and since 2020 the donations have gone to Maskat Shrine, a regional branch of the fraternal order.
This year’s edition will feature 41 top seniors, each selected for their on‑court performance and community involvement. The event’s organizers say the games provide a final opportunity for the athletes to display their talents before college recruiters and local fans.
While the football component of the Oil Bowl has been called off this season, the basketball and volleyball showcases continue to draw large crowds, underscoring the community’s appetite for post‑season all‑star action.
Local businesses and volunteers have rallied around the fundraiser, with proceeds earmarked for health‑care initiatives that benefit children across North Texas. The continued success of the Oil Bowl illustrates how high‑school sports can serve a broader purpose beyond the scoreboard.
