The 2026 Players Era Championships are set to reshape college basketball, bringing together 24 elite programs in a historic two‑tournament format that will unfold in Las Vegas this November.
Bracket Play Returns with a Fresh Twist
For the first time the event will employ a single‑elimination bracket, replacing the pool‑play structure that drew criticism a year ago. The 16‑team bracket will be split into two eight‑team divisions, each culminating in a championship game that awards an additional $1 million in name, image and likeness (NIL) opportunities.
Games will be staged at two iconic venues on the Strip: the MGM Grand Garden Arena and the Michelob Ultra Arena. The eight‑team tournament runs from November 17‑19, while the larger 16‑team competition follows from November 24‑28, guaranteeing a total of 37 contests that will make it the biggest regular‑season showcase in college basketball history.
The field features a blend of traditional powerhouses and rising contenders. Thirteen of the 24 participants earned spots in last year’s NCAA Tournament, and schools such as Florida, Michigan, Gonzaga, Iowa State, Houston, Louisville and Tennessee sit among the top‑15 teams in CBS Sports’ offseason rankings. Notable matchups include a one‑off showdown between Duke and UConn at the T‑Mobile Arena, part of Duke’s partnership with Amazon Prime Video.
Beyond the competition, the Championships will distribute millions of dollars in NIL money, underscoring the growing financial stakes for student‑athletes. Organizers say the new bracket format not only addresses past critiques but also creates a clearer path for teams to battle for both prestige and financial reward.
