The 2026 Richland County girls soccer season kicks off on August 14 with a slate of Friday night matches that set the tone for a year full of promise.
Eight programs — Clear Fork Colts, Crestview Cougars, Lexington Lady Lex, Madison Rams, Mansfield Christian Flames, Mansfield Senior Tygers, Ontario Warriors and Shelby Whippets — bring a mix of seasoned starters and promising newcomers to the Mid‑Ohio Athletic Conference and surrounding leagues.
Clear Fork Colts: Experience Meets Ambition
Led by head coach Brittany Bechtel, now in her 21st year, the Colts enter the campaign with a 16‑2‑2 record from the previous season and a share of the MOAC co‑championship. Six returning starters give the squad continuity, while the loss of seven graduates creates openings for younger players to step up.
Lexington Lady Lex: Pursuing Conference Glory
Under Buck Morton’s tenth season, the Lady Lex posted a 13‑5‑3 record, captured the Ohio Cardinal Conference title and added a Division III district championship. The team aims to defend that district crown while battling for the OCC crown and a deeper tournament run.
Ontario Warriors: Rebuilding After a Strong Run
Larry Atkinson, now in his 22nd year, guides a Warriors squad that finished 15‑5‑1 and claimed both the MOAC co‑championship and a district title. This year the roster loses many seniors, prompting a focus on cohesion and tournament success.
Mansfield Christian Flames: A Talented Roster
Coach Jesse Rider, in his third year, oversees a Flames team that finished 18‑3‑1, winning the Mid‑Buckeye Conference and a Division V district championship. The group’s talent is matched by a work ethic that emphasizes hard work and competition.
Crestview Cougars and Shelby Whippets: Building Blocks
Elizabeth Webb’s seventh season at Crestview sees the Cougars at 6‑8‑3 last year, aiming to leverage returning players for a fresh start. Meanwhile, Keith Swisher’s eighth year with the Shelby Whippets focuses on health, record improvement and a first postseason victory, targeting a MOAC title.
Madison Rams and Mansfield Senior Tygers: Looking Forward
Rob Kershner begins his first season with the Madison Rams, who posted a 7‑10‑2 record and hope to win both the OCC and a district title, building on a strong program tradition. The Tygers, under Kane Pennywitt’s second year, seek to improve from a 0‑14‑2 showing and lay a foundation for future growth.
