Eastern Illinois Alumni on the Ballot
Three former Eastern Illinois players have earned spots among the candidates, underscoring the program’s lasting impact on the sport. Pete Catan, John Jurkovic and Erik Lora each bring distinctive achievements that have kept their names in the conversation for Hall of Fame consideration.
Pete Catan distinguished himself as a two‑time All‑American defensive end. He held school records for sacks in a game, a season and a career, and after college he pursued professional opportunities in the Canadian Football League and the USFL, where he was recognized with All‑League honors.
John Jurkovic also earned All‑American honors twice as a defensive end. He captained his team to a 1986 conference championship and guided the squad to the NCAA Division I‑AA playoff quarterfinals. Over a nine‑year NFL career, Jurkovic contributed to the Jacksonville Jaguars, earning second‑team All‑League recognition in 1996.
Erik Lora made his mark as a two‑time All‑American wide receiver. A finalist for the Walter Payton Award in both 2012 and 2013, he set the FCS single‑season reception record with 136 catches during the 2012 campaign, a testament to his productivity at the highest level of Division I football.
