A Young Fan’s Game‑Changing Fundraiser
Nine‑year‑old Jack Leandro of Acushnet, Massachusetts, has turned his passion for hockey into a charitable mission that is capturing attention across the state.
His sister Sydney was diagnosed with leukemia in 2020 and endured a two‑and‑a‑half‑year battle before beating the disease; the Rhode Island‑based nonprofit A Wish Come True Inc granted her family a once‑in‑a‑lifetime wish.
Inspired by a friend’s fundraiser, Jack created the “Pucks for Bucks” campaign, pledging to fire a hockey puck into a net for every dollar donated, while his family records each shot to track progress.
Last year the effort raised $10,027, a sum that helped fund a trip to Disney World for the family of Maddox, illustrating the tangible impact of small‑scale giving.
This summer the fundraiser will run through August, with Jack’s parents Lyndsey and Adam and his sister Sydney all pitching in as the family hopes to assist more households facing similar challenges.
Beyond the numbers, Jack’s mother says she finds it rewarding to watch her son think bigger than himself, and the youngster is already eyeing the next family that might benefit from the growing initiative.
