A Frightened Arrival
During the excitement of a World Cup celebration in Vancouver, a small, trembling bunny was discovered hidden among the crowds, its wide eyes reflecting fear.
Bonding with Caregivers
Volunteers from Rabbitat Rescue arrived promptly, gently coaxing the animal out of its hiding spot and giving it the name Chickpea, a nod to its delicate, speckled coat.
At first, Chickpea remained skittish, flinching at every sudden movement, but the dedicated caregivers Sorelle and Felix worked patiently, offering steady hands and soothing words until the bunny began to trust them.
A Likely Legacy of Abandonment
Experts at the rescue believe the young rabbit is likely a descendant of a pet that was abandoned, a hypothesis supported by its timid behavior and the circumstances of its discovery.
Rehabilitation and Outdoor Time
Now safely housed in quarantine at the shelter, Chickpea is undergoing a structured rehabilitation program designed to rebuild her confidence and health.
Each day, she is granted supervised outdoor time, allowing her to experience grass and fresh air under careful observation, a critical step in her recovery.
Chickpea will share her journey with two other rescued rabbits, Hubcap and Barbie, as the shelter prepares a communal space where they can heal together and eventually, if all goes well, find permanent homes.
