A new era for Princeville basketball
Aaron Cowser, a Princeville alumnus, was named the new head coach of the boys basketball team in May, succeeding longtime mentor Tait Sennett.
Cowser graduated from Princeville High School in 2004 as a three‑sport standout, excelling in football, basketball and track before returning to his hometown to begin a coaching career.
Over the past ten years he has served as an assistant coach, absorbing the program’s culture and building relationships with players, and he now intends to sharpen the team’s defense as the 35‑second shot clock prepares to take effect for the 2026‑27 season.
Sennett stepped down after amassing 100 wins in just five seasons and guiding the Princes to the 2025 Class 1A Sweet Sixteen, a milestone that underscored the program’s rapid rise.
During the 2025‑26 campaign the team finished 15‑16 overall and placed sixth in the Lincoln Trail Conference, a respectable showing that sets the stage for future improvement.
Cowser is eager to participate in the annual Princeville Holiday Tournament, a tradition that has run for decades over the Christmas break and has seen the school capture three titles in the past six years; he recalls watching the event as a child alongside his father.
With a blend of local roots and fresh strategy, Cowser hopes to steer the program toward greater defensive consistency and deeper tournament runs in the years ahead.
