Abe Oberhauser, the quarterback of Metro-East Lutheran, capped a standout senior campaign that will be remembered as the most successful in the program’s history.
A Dual-Threat Quarterback
Despite breaking his throwing thumb twice, Oberhauser refused to let injury dictate his role, emerging as a pivotal leader for the Knights.
He guided the team to a 7-3 record, the best season ever recorded by Metro-East Lutheran, and earned the Intelligencer’s small-school offensive MVP as well as All-State honors.
His statistical footprint was equally impressive: he completed 72 of 109 pass attempts for 1,090 yards and 21 touchdowns, while rushing for 1,363 yards and 16 scores on 119 carries, averaging 11.5 yards per carry.
The dual-threat nature of his game forced opposing defenses to account for him in every snap, opening up opportunities for teammates and reshaping the offensive scheme.
Beyond the numbers, Oberhauser contributed 174 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and finished his senior year with 2,627 total yards and 39 touchdowns, setting a school record for passing yards while wearing a cast on his injured hand.
His career totals — 3,222 passing yards, 46 touchdowns, 1,797 rushing yards and 22 scores — add up to 5,193 yards of total production, a milestone that underscores his sustained impact.
The senior class, inspired by Oberhauser’s leadership, helped lay the cultural foundation that propelled the program forward, a legacy that will echo in future seasons.
Although the season has concluded, the story of a quarterback who turned adversity into achievement continues to resonate across the local football community.
