Abram Alvarado never imagined that a single skate on the ice would set him on a path to a $10,000 scholarship.
A Scholarship Built on Character
The Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation recently awarded him the High School Hockey Scholarship, recognizing not just his performance on the rink but also his character and academic record.
Alvarado, who once contemplated quitting hockey after his first skate, now serves as an alternate captain for his high school team, a role that reflects the respect he earns from teammates.
Off the ice, he treasures the friendships and memories forged through the game, and he gives back by volunteering with the Blue Jackets Hockey League, where he coaches younger players.
Next fall he will enroll at Indiana University, entering the Kelley School of Business and the selective ACE program, where he plans to study business.
