A season of missed opportunities
AC Milan’s 2025‑26 campaign was marked by a roller‑coaster of expectations and disappointment. The Rossoneri hovered in the top two for much of Serie A, only to tumble to fifth after a 2‑1 defeat at Cagliari on the final day, a result that cost them a Champions League spot by a single point.
The loss to Cagliari crystallised what the management had already labelled an "unequivocal failure". In response, RedBird, the U.S. investment group that owns the club, announced the dismissal of both head coach Massimiliano Allegri and chief executive officer Giorgio Furlani, signalling a clean break from the previous sporting direction.
The shake‑up extended beyond the bench. Sporting director Igli Tare and technical director Geoffrey Moncada were also let go, clearing the way for a fresh administrative slate. Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who had been a pivotal figure on and off the pitch, was retained in a special advisory role to help steer the club’s restructuring.
Leadership changes and the road ahead
Gerry Cardinale, managing partner of RedBird, will work closely with Ibrahimovic to select new coaching staff and rebuild the technical department. The partnership aims to restore the club’s competitive edge and refocus its ambitions on European competition for the upcoming season.
