From August 4 to 16, the Abilene Christian University women's basketball team will journey across two continents, beginning in Athens before moving on to Rwanda, as part of a preparatory tour for the upcoming 2026‑27 season.
In Greece, the Bulldogs are scheduled to meet Athens Select and Melissia Select 2 in exhibition matches, giving coaches a chance to experiment with new lineups and strategies before the next campaign.
The next stop, Nafplio, offers a blend of history and relaxation; the team will walk the ancient walls of Palamidi Fortress, cruise the Corinth Canal and unwind on the sandy shores of Tolo Beach.
Service with a Purpose
In Kigali, the squad will partner with Rwanda Children, a nonprofit founded by ACU alumnus Serge Gasore, to run basketball clinics and conversation circles for the organization’s daily visitors, a program that supports over 1,500 people and provides health coverage for more than 3,000 children.
Beyond the court, the itinerary includes a safari in Akagera National Park, allowing the players to experience Rwanda’s wildlife while reflecting on the broader impact of their visit.
The tour aligns with a recent NCAA rule change that permits programs to schedule an international trip each year, opening new avenues for team bonding, cultural exchange and community outreach.
