Adam Meyer has been appointed as the new varsity head coach for the Sam Barlow football program, a move that has generated excitement across the school community.
Roots in the Community
Meyer’s family has deep ties to Barlow, with multiple generations having graduated from the school, a fact that underscores his personal connection to the community he will now lead.
A Proven Coaching Legacy
Before stepping into the top role, Meyer built a reputation as a dedicated coach, most recently guiding the Gresham girls flag football team to a district conference championship and two state playoff appearances.
Culture of Accountability and Tradition
His coaching philosophy centers on building a culture of accountability, hard work, and pride, while honoring the longstanding traditions of Sam Barlow football.
From Service to Classroom to Sideline
Meyer enlisted in the U.S. Marines after graduating from Barlow, later earning a degree in physical education from Western Oregon University, and has spent the past 14 years teaching health and physical education in the Gresham‑Barlow School District.
A Decade of Hands‑On Experience
His coaching career began 12 years ago at Gresham High School, and over the last six seasons he has served in multiple capacities at Barlow, including varsity offensive coordinator, junior varsity and freshman head coach, defensive coordinator, and special teams coordinator, working with linebackers, defensive backs, and running backs.
The appointment reflects the school district’s confidence in Meyer’s ability to blend his personal heritage with a forward‑looking vision for the program.
