Louisiana Tech announced this week that Adam Schwartz will join the Bulldogs’ men’s basketball staff as an assistant coach for the upcoming 2026‑27 season, bringing a wealth of experience from a career that spans multiple levels of the game.
Schwartz’s journey in coaching began as a student assistant at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he first immersed himself in a program known for its defensive intensity, setting the stage for a path that would take him from junior colleges to Division I.
His early professional stops included a stint at Chicago State, where he contributed to a staff that produced an All‑Conference player, and a period at Alcorn State that culminated in a 13‑5 record in the SWAC, highlighting his ability to elevate programs in competitive conferences.
Four years at Blinn College proved to be a turning point; not only did the team amass 74 victories under his guidance, but Schwartz also served as academic coordinator, raising the squad’s GPA from 2.87 to 3.37 and achieving a perfect 100 % graduation rate among scholarship athletes.
At Mojave High School in Nevada, he stepped into the role of head boys’ varsity coach and guided the team to a 22‑8 record, earning a state tournament berth and being recognized as the Nevada Preps Coach of the Year for the 2018‑19 season.
A legacy of leadership and learning
His reputation as a developer of talent grew as he worked with the Las Vegas Prospects Nike EYBL program, mentoring top‑100 prospects and McDonald’s All‑Americans, while also maintaining a long‑standing affiliation with UNLV that kept him connected to the university’s basketball culture.
For nine seasons he wore multiple hats at Lamar Community College, first as an assistant and later as head coach, steering the team to its inaugural NJCAA Region IX Championship and a historic appearance at the National Tournament, a milestone that cemented his reputation as a builder of championship cultures.
Beyond the X’s and O’s, Schwartz is married to Meagan O’Connell‑Carne, a partnership that reflects a shared commitment to community and family, values that he brings to every program he joins.
The hiring of Schwartz is being hailed by Louisiana Tech athletics as a strategic move that blends proven on‑court success with a track record of academic excellence, promising to reinforce the Bulldogs’ ambitions both in the standings and in the classroom.
