A New Era for UTSA Basketball Coaching Staff
The University of Texas at San Antonio announced this week that Adam Short will join its men's basketball program as an assistant coach for the upcoming 2026‑27 season. The move signals the program's intent to strengthen its defensive schemes and player development pipelines.
Short arrives after a productive stint at Queens University of Charlotte, where he served as special teams coordinator and rebounding coordinator. During his tenure the team posted a 41‑19 record and earned a berth in the NCAA tournament, a testament to the impact of his analytical approach and player‑focused coaching.
His coaching journey also includes tenures at the University of Texas and the University of Mississippi, institutions known for robust defensive traditions. At both schools Short contributed to units that consistently ranked among the nation’s best in turnover margin and opponent shooting percentage.
Beyond the hardwood, Short holds a bachelor's degree in English and a master's in Organizational Development from Avila University. He and his wife, Erika Orozco‑Short, are parents to a two‑year‑old son named AP, a detail he often shares to illustrate the balance he strives for between family and coaching.
Expressing enthusiasm for the new role, Short said he looks forward to collaborating with head coach Austin Claunch to lay the groundwork for a championship‑contending program. He emphasized the importance of continuity, player growth and the development of a culture rooted in accountability and relentless effort.
