A Homecoming for a Broncos Veteran
Adam Trautman, a seven‑year NFL veteran who currently lines up for the Denver Broncos, came home to Elk Rapids this weekend to run a free football camp for local youth. The event, which attracted more than 150 campers, was designed not only to sharpen on‑field techniques but also to show that a professional athlete can be a relatable neighbor.
Trautman, a 2015 graduate of Elk Rapids High School, reflected on his path from a small northern Michigan program to the bright lights of the NFL. After a standout college career at the University of Dayton, he was selected by the New Orleans Saints in the third round of the 2020 draft before signing with the Broncos, where he has become a regular presence on special teams and as a blocking tight end.
From Small Town Roots to NFL Stages
Speaking to the campers, Trautman emphasized the value of hard work and the importance of staying grounded despite the glitz of professional sports. “I want you to see that the guy you watch on TV is just a guy who puts in the same grind you do,” he said, encouraging the youngsters to chase their own dreams with the same dedication that helped him earn a spot in the league.
The camp’s curriculum blended skill drills with classroom‑style talks about discipline, teamwork and mental toughness. Trautman broke down route‑running concepts, demonstrated proper blocking techniques and answered questions about nutrition and recovery, all while keeping the atmosphere light and approachable.

Looking ahead, the Broncos are gearing up for the start of the regular season, which opens on the road against the Kansas City Chiefs. Trautman will soon return to Denver to acclimate to the altitude and join his teammates for training camp, hopeful that the lessons he’s sharing with the next generation will translate into on‑field success for the club.
