Draft Day Highlights
The 2026 NHL Draft brought a moment of pride for the University of Michigan as forward Adam Valentini heard his name called in the third round by the Utah Mammoth. The selection marked the culmination of a rookie campaign that placed him at the top of the freshman scoring leaderboard.
Valentini finished his debut season with 27 points, a tally that topped every other first‑year player in the league. His contributions were pivotal in guiding the Wolverines to a Big Ten Tournament championship and a berth in the Frozen Four, underscoring his impact on a team that exceeded preseason expectations.
The rookie’s early momentum was evident from a three‑game point streak to start the year, highlighted by his first multiple‑goal outing on October 16 against Robert Morris. His most productive night came in November against Penn State, where he recorded a goal and two assists, showcasing his playmaking ability.
International Acclaim
Beyond college hockey, Valentini has represented Canada on the international stage, serving as an alternate captain for Hockey Canada at the 2016 U18 World Championship. He later helped the senior squad capture bronze at the 2025 Hlinka Gretzky Cup and was the leading scorer at the 2024 World U17 Hockey Challenge, where Canada secured gold.
His overseas experience also includes a season with the Chicago Steel of the USHL during 2024‑25, where he continued to refine his game before returning to the collegiate ranks.
Valentini will join fellow freshman forward J.P. Hurlbert, who was drafted in the first round by the Detroit Red Wings on June 26. The pair headline Michigan’s 2026 NHL Draft class, raising optimism about the program’s pipeline of talent.
